As a contrast to my long list of 3x classes, here is my much shorter "old School" class list for humans
Fighter
Black Wizard
White Wizard
Ranger
Thief
Bard.
One class for each stat, Fighter (STR) Black Wizard (INT) White Wizard (WIS) Ranger (CON) Thief (DEX) Bard (CHA)
Other games may use other types of classes such as Paladin, Cleric, Druid, Monk, and such but the numbers are still a lot smaller.
I find that with the right players, it really doesn't matter. There is enough for fun and thats all that matters.

Personally, I'd go with the following:
ReplyDeleteFighter (STR)
Rogue (DEX)
Outlander (CON)
Magic-User (INT)
Cleric (WIS)
Aristocrat (CHA)
But then again, that's basically the model I used for Fantasy Concepts.
All in all, I think you're on the right track here.

Thanks. I'll check out fantasy concepts BTW. Sounds pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteCleric was dropped because I am trying to deemphasize religion in the game and I chose Bard over Aristocrat (which is a solid class concept BTW) because Aristocrat is a background in my game not a class.
Name changes are just flavor text anyway. I also suspect outlander and ranger are close to the same concept
